40 miles to go...

Only four weeks until the Chicago marathon, and I have 40 miles to run before I can scale back, put my feet up, and taper! Being my first marathon, it's really been a learning experience. I am completely convinced that running takes a hell of a lot more outta you than biking or swimming. The importance of stretching has never been more clear in my mind. And I can't give enough props to John Bray, the former pro football trainer who has kept me on the go using Muscle Energy Techniques. John will be in Ann Arbor and taking clients if you know anyone coping with a chronic back or leg injury.

Oh, and I can't forget Amy Klinke, clearly in the running for the world's best running partner because she can make six miles feel like three. (Unless there are hills, then maybe it's closer to four.)

If I do 30 more miles I'll be lucky! Wish I had Amy to train with - Dan doesn't like to talk. Can't wait to run the big one with you!

One thing to keep in mind is you'll feel like crap during the taper. At least I did when I ran my marathon last year. My 20-miler was fantastic, but for the 3 weeks after that, I could barely walk up the stairs without resting. I was worried there was something wrong with me, but everyone told me it was normal. On race day, I felt great!
